Philippians 4:9 – “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
As followers of Christ, we’re not just called to learn from God’s Word; we’re called to live it out. Paul’s words in Philippians 4:9 remind us that knowing the truth is only part of the equation. The real change happens when we put that knowledge into practice: “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice.” It’s one thing to hear about PEACE; it’s another thing entirely to live in PEACE.
The Christian life begins with learning from God, from His Word, and from those who faithfully follow Him. As we dive into Scripture, we learn who God is, what He desires for us, and how we are called to live. But the goal isn’t just knowledge; it’s transformation. God’s Word is meant to change us, and shape our thoughts, actions, and hearts. The more we engage with it, the more we begin to see the world through His eyes and reflect His PEACE in our lives
But learning isn’t enough. Paul makes it clear: “Put it into practice.” What does this look like? It’s choosing PEACE over conflict, patience over impatience, forgiveness over bitterness. It’s showing kindness when it's easier to judge, offering grace when it's easier to hold a grudge, and extending love even when it’s difficult. It’s living as Jesus lived, living out the PEACE He offers, not just talking about it. When we act in alignment with God’s Word, we become His hands and feet on earth, bringing light into dark places and PEACE into broken situations.
And here’s the promise: When we put God’s Word into practice, the God of PEACE will be with us. PEACE isn’t about living a trouble-free life; it’s about experiencing God’s presence in the midst of life’s challenges. It’s the PEACE that calms our hearts when life feels overwhelming, the PEACE that strengthens us when we’re weak, the PEACE that holds us when everything else feels shaky. This PEACE is a gift, something we don’t earn, but receive when we choose to walk in God’s ways.
Let’s put into practice God’s PEACE this Christmas season!
Prayer ~ Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Help us not only to learn from You but to live out what we’ve learned. Give us the strength to put Your commands into practice in our daily lives, and may Your PEACE fill our hearts and overflow to those around us. ~ Amen
