John 15:12 ~ This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

As we get together with friends and family this Christmas, it's a great time to pause and think about what Jesus meant when He said in John 15:12, “This is my commandment, that you LOVE one another as I have loved you.” Christmas is all about LOVE and giving, and it’s a perfect reminder for us to live out this command in the way we treat those around us.

When we think about how Jesus loved us, we realize His LOVE was sacrificial and unconditional. He showed us the ultimate example of LOVE by laying down His life for us. He says in the next verse, “Greater LOVE has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). This Christmas, as we hang out with friends and loved ones, we're called to do the same, to show LOVE in real, tangible ways. It's not just about words or gifts; it's about showing LOVE through our actions.

Loving others well goes beyond just exchanging presents or enjoying a nice meal together. It’s about showing God’s LOVE in ways that matter most. By being kind, listening to someone who needs it, or forgiving someone who hurt us we demonstrate God’s LOVE. In John 15:14, Jesus says, “You are my friends if you do what I command.” When we LOVE  as Jesus loved us, we not only follow His command, but we also show the world the kind of LOVE God has for all of us.

This Christmas, let’s remember that loving others well isn’t just for the holiday season; it’s a way of life. Let’s be willing to go all in for our friends, showing them Christ’s LOVE in everything we do. By living this way, we reflect God’s LOVE  and help others experience the hope and joy Christmas brings.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank You for the amazing LOVE You’ve shown us through Jesus. As we gather with our friends and family this Christmas, help us to LOVE each other the way You LOVE us. Fill our hearts with compassion, and help us put others first, just like Jesus did for us. May our LOVE reflect Your grace, and may we be kind and give mercy to everyone around us. ~ Amen
