My Vision, Jesus’s Way
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. ~ Proverbs 3:5–6
As we step into the final week of the year, it’s only natural to look back a little. What worked. What didn’t. What we’re taking with us, and what we’re ready to let go of. Week 52 isn’t about scrambling to finish strong. It’s about finishing aligned. And for me, that means setting vision the Jesus way.
Jesus never rushed the process, but He was always clear on purpose. He lived with intention, grounded in trust, obedience, service, and steady faith. So when we think about our goals - personal, professional, physical, or spiritual - the real question isn’t just what we want to accomplish, but who we’re becoming along the way.
Because reaching meaningful goals takes more than hype or motivation. It takes character.
Traits like trust in God’s timing, determination to keep going, and perseverance when progress feels slow matter. We need adaptability when plans change, confidence to step forward even when we don’t have all the answers, and motivation to show up on the hard days. Focus helps us tune out distractions, optimism keeps us hopeful, and authenticity ensures we’re chasing goals that actually fit who God created us to be. Add in resilience when life knocks us down, responsibility for the choices we make, and a growth mindset that sees every season as a chance to learn, and now we’re building something that lasts.
These aren’t just “self-help” traits. They’re daily, lived-out faith. They shape how we respond when things don’t go as planned, when the results take longer than expected, and when obedience requires patience.
When we zoom out and look at goals over a full year, we start to realize that growth isn’t always flashy. Sometimes it looks like showing up again. Sometimes it means adjusting the plan without quitting the calling. And sometimes it means trusting God even when clarity hasn’t caught up yet.
Three Questions to Ask Yourself This Week:
1. Are my goals in line with God’s Word? - Before you plan, pause. Before you push, pray. Ask God for wisdom and direction. What does Scripture say about where you’re headed? Does your vision reflect His heart, His timing, and His truth?
2. Am I trusting God fully? - It’s tempting to rely on our own plans and backup strategies. But real peace, and real progress, comes when we trust God with both the process and the outcome. Let go of the need to control every detail and allow Him to lead.
3. How will I serve others through these goals? - Goals aren’t meant to end with us. Jesus always pointed outward, to love, to serve, to lift others up. Ask yourself how your goals can help someone else, meet a need, or reflect God’s love in practical ways.
As you move into this final week of the year, trust that God is guiding your steps. You may not see the full picture yet, but step by step, He’s faithful to show you what you need when you need it. Keep walking in faith, knowing He’s already working behind the scenes.
This Week’s Challenge: Write down three things you want to accomplish this week. Pray over each one. Ask how it lines up with God’s will and how it reflects the person He’s shaping you to be. Then take action, trusting that when you follow His lead, He’ll straighten your path.
Three Actionable Steps as You Step Into the New Year:
1. Set one God-centered goal - Pick a goal that stretches your faith, not just your comfort zone. Pray over it before it ever hits your calendar.
2. Build character before outcomes - Focus more on who you’re becoming—consistent, patient, resilient—than on quick results.
3. Serve on purpose - Tie at least one goal to serving others. When purpose fuels progress, momentum follows.
As this year comes to a close, don’t rush past what God is teaching you. Let Him refine your vision. Step into the new year with faith, focus, and a heart aligned with Him, because the best vision is always Jesus’ way.
Dear Lord ~ Thank You for walking with us through this year, every high, every challenge, and everything in between. As we close this chapter and look ahead, help us trust You more, listen more closely, and follow where You’re leading. Shape our goals, our hearts, and our steps so they reflect You. Give us clarity, courage, and peace as we move forward, and remind us that You’re already at work. ~Amen.
