My Vision ~ Jesus’s Way

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” ~ Philippians 2:3

Have you ever noticed how exhausting it is to try and “prove yourself”? Whether it’s at work, in ministry, or even on social media, we can get caught up in striving - pushing to look like we’ve got it all together, to measure up, to be noticed. But Paul reminds us that authenticity in Christ looks completely different. It’s not about climbing ladders or collecting applause. It’s about serving with a genuine heart, where our gifts flow out of who we are in Him, not who we’re trying to impress.

Here’s the beautiful thing: God has already given each of us unique gifts. Romans 12 reminds us that some are gifted in teaching, some in encouragement, some in serving, some in giving, some in leadership, and some in showing mercy. These aren’t random talents, they’re God’s intentional design in you. When you use your biblical gifting authentically, you’re not just “being nice,” you’re carrying out Kingdom work exactly as God wired you.

And here’s the freedom: you don’t have to copy someone else’s gift. Your role in the Body of Christ matters just as much as anyone else’s. Authenticity means walking boldly in your lane and letting God use it to bless others.

Here are three simple, real-life steps to step out of selfish ambition this week and live authentically in Christ:

1. Offer encouragement without expectation. Send that text, write that note, or speak that kind word, not to get something back, but simply to build someone else up.

2. Use your gift in a hidden way. Maybe you bake, organize, teach, or create. Find one way to use that gift where no spotlight shines, just you and God knowing you poured love into it.

3. Make room for someone else’s win. Celebrate a friend, coworker, or student’s success. Instead of comparing, cheer them on like it’s your own victory.

When you live authentically in Christ, you stop hustling for approval and start operating out of overflow. And that’s when people really see Jesus in you.

Dear Lord ~ Thank You for creating me on purpose with gifts that matter. Forgive me for the times I’ve chased after recognition instead of serving from authenticity. This week, help me to lean into my true self in You, using my gifts to lift others up, to encourage, and to celebrate Your work in them. Teach me to live out Philippians 2:3 with a humble heart that reflects Your love ~ Amen.
