Walk His Way 3
“Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ~ John 8:12 Sounds great, right? Until you realize what light actually does. Because light doesn’t just feel warm and comforting, it reveals stuff. And if we’re being real, darkness is kind of convenient. You can hide in it. You can ignore things in it. You can stay exactly where you are and not deal with what’s underneath. Light doesn’t let you do that. Light says, “Hey…we’re gonna deal with this.” Not to shame you. Not to call you out. But to move you forward. And that’s the part people don’t always talk about, following Jesus isn’t always comfortable. It’s clear…but it’s not always easy. Most of us don’t wake up and say, “Yeah, today I’m choosing darkness.” We just drift. We avoid that conversation we know we need to have. We keep putting off that thing God’s been nudging us toward. We stay quiet when we should speak. We play small when we know we’re being called to step up. Not because we’re bad…just because it’s easier. But you can’t walk fully with purpose and stay hidden at the same time. At some point, you’ve gotta step into the light. Even when it’s a little uncomfortable. Even when it exposes what needs to change. Even when it takes some courage. Because here’s the flip side nobody wants you to miss: Light doesn’t just expose things…it helps you see where to go. It clears the path. It gives direction. It brings life back into places that felt stuck. And honestly? Most days, you don’t need the whole plan. You just need enough light for the next step. That’s it. So if you’re wondering what that looks like practically, here’s a simple way to think about walking in the light. First - be honest. What are you avoiding right now? A conversation? A habit? Something you know isn’t aligned? Bringing it into the light doesn’t mean you have it all figured out. It just means you stop pretending it’s not there. Second - don’t just agree…move. It’s easy to say, “Yeah, I believe that.” But Jesus didn’t ask for agreement. He asked for movement. So what’s one step you can take today that actually lines up with where He’s leading you? Not ten steps. Just one. And third - stay close. You don’t create the light. You stay connected to it. That’s prayer. That’s scripture. That’s quiet moments where you slow down enough to actually listen. Because the closer you stay, the clearer things get. Not all at once…but enough to keep going. And sometimes, that’s all you need. Walk on… Dear Lord ~ Thank You for being the light that guides my path. Help me step out of darkness, out of fear, hiding, and hesitation, and into the life You are calling me to live. Give me courage to face what needs to be revealed, and strength to follow where You lead. Shine light on my next step, and help me trust You enough to take it. Let me walk in Your truth, Your clarity, and Your life ~ Amen.
Walk His Way 2
Let’s be real for a second. David’s prayer here is refreshingly honest. He’s not asking God to make life smoother or remove the obstacles. He’s asking God to teach him how to walk. Because walking with the Lord doesn’t just happen automatically. It’s something you choose. Most of us live with a bit of a split heart if we’re honest. Part of us wants God… and part of us still wants control. We want faith, but we also like comfort. We want purpose, but we hang on to habits, distractions, and shortcuts that slowly pull us off course. David just puts it out there: “Give me an undivided heart.” Not a distracted heart. Walking with God isn’t just about saying the right things on Sunday morning. It’s about lining up your steps with His direction every day, even when the road feels narrow, uncomfortable, or not exactly popular. Jesus said the road is narrow for a reason. Not because it’s hard to find… but because it requires daily surrender. And here’s the simple truth: You don’t accidentally drift toward God. Step by step. Three Simple Steps to Walk Closer with the Lord:1. Start Your Day with Direction - Not Distraction Before the phone. Open Scripture and ask the same thing David did: “Lord, teach me your way today.” Even five intentional minutes with God in the morning can shape the tone of your whole day. 2. Be Honest About What’s Dividing Your Heart An undivided heart starts with honesty. Ask yourself: What’s competing with my devotion to God right now? Maybe it’s pride. Whatever it is, name it. Bring it to God. Lay it down. God can work with what we’re willing to be honest about. 3. Take One Simple Step of Obedience Walking with God isn’t just an idea - it’s something you live out. Maybe that step today looks like: Forgiving someone. Faith grows when it moves. One small step of obedience today might seem simple, but it’s exactly how God shapes a life that walks closely with Him. Dear Lord ~ Teach me Your way today. Give me an undivided heart that seeks You above everything else. When distractions, comfort, or control pull me away, guide my steps back to You. Help me choose faith, obedience, and integrity in the moments that matter. Lead me step by step so my life reflects Your goodness ~ Amen.
